A leading company in the vision care sector is seeking a commercially-driven General Manager to oversee its business operations in Malaysia, with future responsibility for broader regional markets. This role is part of a planned leadership succession strategy and offers a clear pathway to higher executive responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in sales, business development, and team leadership within the contact lens or optical solutions industry. The role demands a balance of strategic thinking, hands-on execution, and people leadership.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial strategy and execution for the Malaysia business, with progressive oversight of other regional markets.
- Achieve revenue, market share, and profitability targets aligned with corporate objectives.
- Define and execute local go-to-market strategies in alignment with regional and global direction.
- Drive sales growth through strong customer relationships, market development, and channel management.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities with optical retailers, eye care professionals, and healthcare partners.
- Lead new product introductions and commercial initiatives to strengthen market position.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing local team across commercial and support functions.
- Ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and collaboration across departments such as marketing, supply chain, and finance.
- Implement and monitor KPIs to ensure performance and alignment with company standards.
- Work closely with the Managing Director and regional leadership to ensure smooth leadership continuity.
- Contribute to long-term organizational planning, talent development, and future-proofing of the business.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Science, or a related field. MBA or similar advanced qualification is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in commercial roles such as sales, business development, or general management.
- Deep understanding of the vision care industry (contact lens and optical solutions) is essential.
- Proven experience in leading teams, managing P&L, and driving business growth in complex, regulated markets.
- Strong leadership, commercial acumen, and execution capability.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strategic thinker with hands-on operational approach.
