A leading company in the vision care sector is seeking a commercially-driven General Manager to oversee its business operations in Malaysia, with future responsibility for broader regional markets. This role is part of a planned leadership succession strategy and offers a clear pathway to higher executive responsibilities.

 

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in sales, business development, and team leadership within the contact lens or optical solutions industry. The role demands a balance of strategic thinking, hands-on execution, and people leadership.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial strategy and execution for the Malaysia business, with progressive oversight of other regional markets.
  • Achieve revenue, market share, and profitability targets aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Define and execute local go-to-market strategies in alignment with regional and global direction.
  • Drive sales growth through strong customer relationships, market development, and channel management.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities with optical retailers, eye care professionals, and healthcare partners.
  • Lead new product introductions and commercial initiatives to strengthen market position.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing local team across commercial and support functions.
  • Ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and collaboration across departments such as marketing, supply chain, and finance.
  • Implement and monitor KPIs to ensure performance and alignment with company standards.
  • Work closely with the Managing Director and regional leadership to ensure smooth leadership continuity.
  • Contribute to long-term organizational planning, talent development, and future-proofing of the business.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Science, or a related field. MBA or similar advanced qualification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in commercial roles such as sales, business development, or general management.
  • Deep understanding of the vision care industry (contact lens and optical solutions) is essential.
  • Proven experience in leading teams, managing P&L, and driving business growth in complex, regulated markets.
  • Strong leadership, commercial acumen, and execution capability.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with hands-on operational approach.
