About the Role
Our client, a well-established water services and utilities group, is seeking a highly experienced and strategic legal professional to head its Legal Department.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to the Board and Senior Management, providing strategic legal guidance across corporate, commercial, regulatory, governance, compliance, and transactional matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the management and leadership of the Group’s Legal Department and legal team.
- Provide strategic legal counsel and guidance to the Board of Directors, Group CEO, Management, and relevant business units.
- Draft, assess, negotiate, and provide legal advice on a broad range of agreements and legal documents, including commercial contracts, joint ventures, partnerships, procurement agreements, financing documents, and other legal instruments.
- Oversee corporate governance activities and ensure the Group complies with applicable legislation, regulations, and statutory obligations.
- Manage litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution matters, including the appointment and management of external legal counsel where required.
- Provide legal support and advice on corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, investments, restructuring exercises, and property-related matters.
- Monitor regulatory compliance and identify, assess, and manage legal risks across the organisation.
- Establish, develop, and implement legal policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
- Maintain effective relationships with regulatory bodies, government agencies, external stakeholders, and legal advisors.
- Partner with the business on growth initiatives by providing practical and commercially viable legal advice and solutions.
Requirements
Academic & Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognised university.
- Admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya or hold an equivalent professional qualification.
- A Master’s Degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 10–15 years of post-qualification experience gained in legal practice and/or a corporate legal environment.
- At least 5 years of experience in a senior management or leadership role.
- Strong experience covering corporate, commercial, regulatory, governance, litigation, and compliance matters.
- Candidates with a background as a practising Advocate & Solicitor, particularly with experience in corporate matters, litigation, dispute resolution, and court proceedings, are highly encouraged to apply.
- Exposure to industries such as infrastructure, utilities, water services, construction, property development, or public-listed companies will be an added advantage.
